Dentures

What are dentures?
We can now create beautifully natural looking prosthetic teeth. For dentures they are attached to a gum-coloured plastic base that is inserted into the mouth. Sometimes there are metal parts to the denture or a soft liner which will require a unique cleaning routine. Typically dentures are removable, although they can now be stabilised or even anchored in place permanently with dental implants. We will discuss this with you if it is a possibility in your case.

When are dentures necessary?
Many people experience tooth decay, trauma to their teeth through accident, or gum disease through poor dental hygiene. Some people are even genetically predisposed to have weaker teeth and gums. We are all living longer and age plays an important role in tooth loss. Dentures are a popular and cost effective solution to replace missing teeth, whether it is all the teeth in one or both jaws, or partial dentures to replace a number of missing teeth.

What does it involve?
We will take an impression of your mouth and from this we create high precision plaster moulds so that our dental technicians can craft you removable dentures to fit your jawbone. We are experienced in matching your natural colouring too, so soon you will be eating, talking and smiling again with confidence.

Are they comfortable?
If you have been living with missing teeth or, indeed, no teeth at all, it is likely that dentures will bring only relief. They do take a short while to get used to and you will probably always be very aware of them in your mouth, but with some tweaking they can eventually become quite comfortable. If we can look at a solution to stabilise your dentures with implants, or even fix them permanently into place, you might find a quality of life similar to having natural teeth.
